Our Story

Charles Wells France is part of the Charles Wells family of companies, founded in Bedford, England in 1876. Five generations of the Wells family have worked at the brewery and there are four members of the Wells family involved today; you can’t buy that kind of heritage, and it’s why we are all so passionate about what we do.

Our Ciders

Deep in the heart of the Herefordshire countryside, Westons Cider Mill is situated in the old village of Much Marcle. It was in 1878 that Mr Henry Weston came to farm at The Bounds, a farmhouse nestled amongst apple and perry pear orchards. Since then, Westons have continued to lovingly produce cider and perry to the highest quality and tradition set out by Henry Weston himself, and we at Charles Wells France are delighted to offer their range in every one of our pubs.

A Dark, ruby coloured stout, with a beautiful, creamy head, this true English stout is rich and sweet. A really enjoyable pint!

McEwan’s IPA can trace its heritage back to the 1860s ale made for the 18,000 mile journey to India. It was dispatched inland to provide relief for workers toiling beneath the sub-continental sun. It tasted so good it’s a wonder each barrel reached its destination.

This Gold Medal winning beer is still fermenting in the bottle, so the yeast gives the taste of the beer an extra dimension which is rich and complex. You will find this beer a really satisfying drink.

Golden lager, double filtered to give a distinctive, clean, extra smooth taste. It is rounded and irresistibly fresh in aftertaste.

A burnished British copper coloured beer dominated by dark fruit, juicy malt and tangy hops.

Luxurious and at the same time with a hint of decadence, Young's Double Chocolate Stout has it all, delivering a satisfying, indulgent taste without ever becoming overly sweet.

Brewed to a traditional ale recipe with fairtrade bananas, the tempting banoffee aromas are balanced by a masterful malt blend and the spice of the freshest hops.

A genuine premium ale, full bodied with a clean, bitter taste, balanced with sweet burnt malty and fruity notes with a distinctive dry-hop aroma and flavour.

Brewed in true continental style, what makes our new lager really special is a two week cold conditioning stage which bring the depth of flavour and dry hop character.

At the centre of DNA is Dogfish’s signature 60 Minute IPA (due to the of time  boil with hops being continuously added). We add  ‘old world’ brewing expertise to the DNA to produce this seriously good beer!

Selected by their Master Cider Maker, Henry Westons Vintage is a very special cider made from top quality cider apples from the best of the year’s crop. Sparkling, rich and full-bodied with a long lingering finish.

Old Rosie    7.3% ABV

Old Rosie is named after Westons much loved 1921 Aveling and Porter steamroller. Norman Weston acquired it for Westons Cider about 40 years ago and christened it ‘Old Rosie’. The cider of the same name is light, crisp and cloudy, with a characteristically rich style.

A medium dry cider with a subtle, fruity character. Made from the finest quality Hertfordshire apples and blended to an exclusive original recipe.
